UNICEF recently posted this news story about a program in Niger that aims to engage entire communities to help support children and to allow children to realize their rights. Check out the article and accompanying video below and reply with your thoughts and comments in this thread.

I love this! UNICEF is doing great work by empowering the people in this village in Niger to discuss and change the problems they are facing as a community. Everyone is allowed to have a voice, which is a great start for social change!

Thanks for posting this article! It's encouraging to know UNICEF is in the slow, and very long business of changing social norms that affect children.

It's sad to see the high percentage of girls in Niger who don't attend school, but hopefully programs like this one can help turn that around.

Thanks for your comments ginormousj. Yes, it is sad to see the number of girls not attending school is still so high, however we have made great progress in this fight over the past generation. With hard work, we hope to get to the day when ZERO girls(or boys for that matter) aren't attending school.

Also, great profile pic :)
